The infrapatellar fat pad IFP also known as Hoffas fat pad is an intracapsular extrasynovial structure that fills the anterior knee compartment and is richly vascularized and innervated. Also known as Hoffa syndrome fad pad impingement is exactly what it sounds like. Fat pads are a mass of fatty tissue lying below the patella kneecap and behind the patellar tendon.
