Self Certify 28 Days. 1 Where this regulation applies regulation 22 of the 1985 Regulations has effect as if for 7 days there were substituted 28 days. Employees who are absent on or after the 10th of December 2021 can now self-certify sickness for up to 28 days previously 7 days.
The temporary Statutory Sick Pay Medical Evidence Regulations 2021 came into force on 17 December 2021 meaning that employers are not permitted to require medical evidence until after 28 days have passed. Employees were previously able to self-certify for the first 7 days of a sickness absence after whicha fit note had to be obtained from their GP. All employees can now self-certify sickness for up to 28 days.

In a bid to support the booster vaccination efforts emergency legislation was laid before Parliament yesterday on the 16th December which has come into effect today. Employees can now self-certify sickness for up to 28 days. Just posting for others who may not yet be aware that you can now self certify for 28 days if you are unwell.
